Teeth which are severely broken down do not have structural integrity and need reinforcement from the filling material.
A crown is able to wrap around a tooth to hold it together, as well as being strong enough to strengthen the remaining tooth structure.
Crowns require two visits to complete. The first visit involves shaping and then using a special digital camera to scan a mould of the tooth into the computer.
The digital mould is e-mailed to a dental laboratory where the crown is constructed. At a second visit, the constructed crown is then cemented onto the tooth.
