Composite fillings are “white” in colour and often can be difficult to distinguish from the actual tooth structure. Amalgam fillings are silver in colour, but can be a little bit stronger than the composite fillings.
Composite and amalgam fillings are usually completed in a single visit.
Teeth that are more heavily broken down may be more suited to an onlay, and in very severe cases, a crown may be required.
