Stainless steel crowns are used to reinforce baby teeth that have been weakened by large amounts of decay (for example if a pulpotomy has been completed).
They are very strong, resist being decayed, and usually can last until the baby tooth falls out naturally.
Stainless steel crowns come already pre-constructed. The baby tooth is first shaped, and then a stainless steel crown that best fits the baby tooth selected.
It is then trimmed to fit the baby tooth even more accurately, and then attached using a special cement. Stainless steel crowns can be completed in a single visit.
