Today, I’m going to be talking about plastic bags.
Yep – you heard right. Plastic bags.
Which plastic bags am I talking about? The ones that you always see covering the dental chair and equipment. Most people often ask me why there are bags on everything. But there is a very good reason. Let me explain.
The main cause of transmission of infectious diseases is through blood and saliva, and this is something we see every day. Any time a dental procedure is carried out, even something as small as a clean, blood and saliva has the potential to contaminate the equipment. If this blood and saliva were to come into contact with another patient, there is the potential for diseases to be transmitted from one person to another.
That’s the reason we have plastic bags on all the equipment, and wipe everything down after any procedure with disinfectant. As clinical coordinator, it’s my job to make sure that you don’t get any diseases when you see the dentist. I’m sure you’ll see the plastic bags in a different light when you next visit the dentist!
