Some people often have quite a strong fear of the dentist, and turn to “sleep dentistry”. But did you know that most places that offer “sleep dentistry” don’t actually put you to sleep? Most of the times, you’re awake but just very sedated!

The reality of the situation is that there are lots of different forms of sedation, including oral tablets, “happy gas”, the green whistle that paramedics often use, intravenous sedation, and even full general anaesthesia. How do you know which type of sedation you are getting, and whether it is suitable for you?

At eDentistry Wantirna, we can properly gauge the level of sedation required for your procedure and discuss this with you in detail before you make a decision. Smaller procedures and a minor level of anxiety can often be managed with lower levels of sedation, whereas more extensive procedures and a higher level of anxiety can potentially be managed under general anaesthesia in a hospital setting. All sedation procedures are performed only by a registered anaesthetist, resulting in the safest and most effective sedation for your dental procedure.

If you are interested in knowing more about sedation in dentistry, feel free to call eDentistry Wantirna on (03) 9800 1184 or send us an e-mail at info@edentistry.net.au and have a chat with us.

The post Sleep Dentistry first appeared on eDentistry Wantirna.
