This is a 3-day course on Restorative Implantology dealing with Multi Unit Restorations. This contains both didactic and practical components, designed for the general dentist to add to their daily clinical repertoire. The content is strongly evidence-based, aiding the clinical operator to have confidence that their procedures have been validated by research.

This course provides a total of 24 hours of scientific CPD.
Module 2 covers multi unit fixed AND removable implant supported prostheses, including combined tooth-implant supported prostheses. This includes:
  • Prosthetic implant componentry for removable prostheses;
  • Overeruption and patterns of bone loss in multi unit edentulous spaces;
  • Diagnosis and treatment planning through “prosthetically driven” implant placement and positioning;
  • Effect of cantilevers and effect of splinting of structures;
  • Choice of pontics for fixed prostheses;
  • Effect of mandibular flexure on prosthesis design and implant placement;
  • Angled implants and their effect on bone and prosthetic componentry;
  • Differential movement of teeth and decisions for fixed tooth-implant supported prostheses;
  • Movements of removable attachment systems and their influence of prosthesis design and implant placement;
  • Design and positioning of superstructures (bars) and attachments (straight and angled) for removable prostheses;
  • Use of flanges of removable prostheses for lip support;
  • Combining tooth-implant support for removable prostheses;
  • Concepts of force generation for different types of prostheses;
  • Indexed vs. non-indexed componentry for multi unit prostheses;
  • Ovate pontic site development for aesthetic sites;
  • Splinting of impression copings;
  • Impression techniques to capture ovate pontic sites;
  • Verification techniques;
  • Pickup techniques for removable implant supported provisionals;
  • Adjustment, removal and replacement of attachment inserts;
  • Occlusion differences between fixed and removable prostheses;
  • Techniques for removal of fractured/stuck screws.
Hands-on exercises:
  1. Correcting angulation using angled body screw-retained/multi-unit, cement-retained and Locator abutments
  2. Taking abutment level impression of screw-retained/multi-unit and Locator abutment;
  3. Fabricating multi-unit fixture level provisional using non-indexed temporary abutments
  4. Ovate pontic site development
  5. Fabricating customised impression coping WITH PONTIC and taking open tray impression
  6. Fabricating cement-retained tooth-implant supported provisional
  7. Conversion of existing partial denture to tooth-implant supported provisional using Locator abutments
  8. Fractured screw removal techniques

All courses run from 8:30am to 5:30pm, but arrive at 8:00am for registration.

The course will be held at: Sage Hotel Ringwood, Level 5, EASTLAND, 211 Maroondah Highway, Ringwood VIC 3134

Which is attached to Eastland Shopping Centre. Parking for Sage Hotels is at the Warrandyte Rd entrance of Eastland Shopping Centre’s parking lot via entry EAST 6. Parking is included in the course fee.

Food and beverages are included in the course, which includes:
  • All day self-serve freshly brewed coffee, traditional and herbal teas, iced water and mints.
  • Morning tea: Chef’s selection of assorted snacks
  • Lunch: Plated main course of the chef’s choice; segmented seasonal fruit platter; daily dessert selection.
  • Afternoon tea: Chef’s selection of assorted snacks.
